From Where I Sit Now

I’ve been sitting around for three days  teaching my bird to talk, in other words, going nuts. Maria comes over in the evening and feeds me, but I’m not the best company.  My leg’s starting to itch under the cast.  All of this sitting around has forced me to think.  Yesterday I figured out I’ve been asking the wrong question.  The question isn’t what should I do now I’m here on the island but why I am afraid. I am more afraid now than I have ever been, and that’s concerning me.  So I suppose I’ll be talking a bit more to Big Bird today.  He’s eying me now with a beady startled look as if to say, “Amigo, it’s time you spring me from this cage.”
